Craggs Environmental provide commercial and public sector customers with a range of fuel management services to minimise the risks associated with storing large volumes of fuel.
Dorset County Hospital provides a full range of district general services, including an accident and emergency department, and are the main provider of acute hospital services to a population of around 250,000, living within Weymouth and Portland, West Dorset, North Dorset and Purbeck. They also provide renal services for patients throughout Dorset and South Somerset; a total population of 850,000.
The hospital operates 24/7 and has a number of systems in place to ensure their service is uninterrupted, including multiple emergency backup generators which provide power in the event of a power cut; this can literally mean the difference between life and death.
The backup generator is powered through Class A2 Gas Oil (Red Diesel) and it’s vitally important that people who store fuel get this regulary tested in case of contamination. There are many reasons why fuel can become contaminated, but one of the biggest reasons is water contamination which can lead to the buildup of harmful tank sludge, which can ultimately lead to a critical application failure.
After the Craggs Environmental Site Survey Team visited Dorset County Hospital and delivered a fuel sampling test, the results showed that the fuel was out of specification due to high levels of water.
As a result of this Craggs Environmental proposed a number of different fuel management options and Dorset County Hospital decided a full managed service would be the perfect fit for their requirements.
The managed service contract means that Craggs Environmental take on the responsibility of regular testing which is designed to alleviate the risk of critical application failure due to high levels of water, particulate and contamination in stored Class A2 Gas Oil.
Adam Pritchard, Sales Director at Craggs Environmental talks about the benefits of a bespoke managed service:
“We have worked closely with Dorset County Hospital to create a tailored package through a commission of services such as; the installation of our bespoke telemetry system, regular fuel testing, fuel polishing and site surveys.
We understand the importance of fuel management services, especially for organisations like Dorset County Hospital, the potential of business or operational downtime is not an option and it is imperative that the appropriate systems are in place to mitagate the risk of failure.
That’s why the Craggs Environmental managed service system is monitored 365 days a year 24/7 and all clients are supported with a dedicated account manager to ensure continuity and consistency for our customers.”
Matt Chivers, Compliance & Works Manager at Dorset County Hospital talks about the benefits of working with Craggs Environmental:
“Craggs Environmental helped Dorset County Hospital Foundation Trust to identify the risks of our bulk fuel storage installations. The team presented and tailored their managed service to our specific requirements.
The combination of real time data, competent oversight and support combined with predictable service costs should be a significant improvement to us.”
